Travelling to New York City for Fashion Week sounds surreal, but for top model Liam, jet setting around the world for international fashion weeks simply goes with the job! Liam has been modelling since Fall 2013 after being scouted not once, but twice while shopping in Toronto on Queen Street West. “
The funny thing is, I was scouted initially in 2012 and didn’t pursue it, but when the same person scouted me again a year later in the same area I figured it must have been fate and decided to see what it was about” said Liam. Liam is currently a model with Elmer Olsen Model Management
and works from Toronto and New York.
Standing at 6’3″, Liam is undoubtedly striking and has a truly ethereal essence. With his perfectly pale skin, puffy lips, dark blonde hair and blue eyes he is equal parts mysterious and masculine. Liam has a sleek, slender frame and sophisticated aura poising him to take the fashion industry by storm from photo shoots to runway shows.
Liam says the best part about modelling is undoubtedly “visiting new places and meeting new people that I would probably have never encountered.” It makes sense all the creative individuals Liam encounters are a lot of fun to work with and learn from. Although his career has had many exciting high points, Liam confesses that when he has the chance to travel he is most excited. “Travelling to NYC for fashion week recently was definitely a cool experience. I’m looking forward to visiting some cities in Europe in January as well.”
Of course being a model may sound glamorous and exciting, but Liam is the first to say it is a lot of hard work and many people have false perceptions of the industry, “not only do you have to take very good care of your body, but you might also need to be prepared to drop everything in your normal life if you get a call about a job” he says. In terms of being successful in the industry, Liam says he has always been confident due to his training as a classical musician however he recommends thinking like an actor and being dynamic in order to make photos and runway walks come alive!
Modelling is definitely taking Liam on a very exciting journey and he says he has many goals for his career. Being a music-lover, Liam says “I would love to see myself as a successful DJ/producer” so don’t be surprised if you see this successful fashion model signed to a major drum & bass label soon. While Liam says working as a DJ/ model “might be living the dream” we have a feeling it’s about to become his new reality!
It is safe to say Liam is a fantastic model who will go very far in the fashion (and music) industry. All of Liam’s photographs are spectacular and is easy to see why designers always have him on their radar. Dying to know more about Liam’s life in his exclusive interview with F&B Inc bellow!
F&B Inc: What animal best represents the type of model you are?
Liam Calhoun: My sister has compared me to a giraffe before… made me laugh.
F&B Inc: If a movie was being made about your life, what would you title it and who would you want to play you?
Liam Calhoun: “Bettering Myself”.. Maybe Paul Rudd because his characters are usually awkward and make mistakes but have good intentions and come through at the end 🙂
F&B Inc: What was your favourite memory from Summer 2014?Liam Calhoun: Experiencing living in New York for a few weeks at the end of the summer was a memorable experience. I always feel like it’s a more authentic experience to stay somewhere for a longer period of time and really experience a new place as if a regular person would, rather than just touristy things.
F&B Inc: Who is one person that can always make you laugh?
Liam Calhoun: He’s not a person but close enough.. my dog!
F&B Inc: What is your current workout routine?
Liam Calhoun: I’ve always really enjoyed high-intensity workouts like sprinting and kettlebells, but more recently I’ve been doing lower intensity running along with some challenging yoga and pilates routines courtesy of my girlfriend.
F&B Inc: What is the biggest risk you have taken?
Liam Calhoun: Plunging into the world of fashion didn’t have a huge risk to it but I definitely took a chance in something I didn’t foresee myself doing at all.
F&B Inc: How would you describe your personal style?
Liam Calhoun: If there’s one common theme throughout my wardrobe it would have to be lots of simple, classic, non-trendy clothes in darker colours. It’s all about the fit.
F&B Inc: What is your mantra?
Liam Calhoun: The best thing you can do is the right thing, the second-best thing you can do is the wrong thing, but the worst thing you can do is nothing.
