Art Gems has raised over $1.5M over the past 14 years for Creative Works Studio, a therapeutic art program in Toronto for people experiencing mental illness. Read on for tips and tricks on how to start an art collection and register on to bid in this year’s online auction running April 14th – 20th, 2021!

Look for Works That Will Spark A Smile

It’s critical that artwork brings joy. If you don’t love it, then the piece will feel out of place on your walls. If vibrancy appeals, this year’s Art Gems limited edition print donated by Laine Groeneweg should be on your radar. This 18” x 18” silkscreen is inspired by the idea of community and comes framed, courtesy Superframe, and ready to hang.

Consider Your Price Range

Emerging Artist

It can help to set a budget when building your art collection. If you’re looking for more accessible works, consider making a purchase from an emerging artist. This year’s auction features work by recent OCAD graduate Tom Lecuyer whose minimalist woodblock monoprint demonstrates his exploration of process and material. Works created  by Creative Works Studio Members are also on  auction starting at $125.00.

Creative Works Studio Studio is operated by Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes in partnership St. Michael’s Hospital. Donations made through Art Gems go towards art classes, supplies, and visiting artist fees for studio members.
