World MasterCard Fashion Week Runway Review: Meredes Benz Presents DUY Fall/Winter 2013 RTW

March 25, 2013
World MasterCard Fashion Week may have come to an end, but the designs showcased last week will definitely be hot come the Fall! One of the best shows of the week? Mercedes Benz Presents DUY! This runway show was the designer’s first solo show ever after he proved to be the star of the Mercedes Benz Start Up program last season. Over this past year DUY has received intense mentorship from the industry’s biggest power players and has definitely proved that hard work pays off! His runway show at Toronto fashion week earned him a standing ovation!

DUY’s “The Northern Oracle” collection featured a range of textures including fur, mohair, feathers and sequins making each look striking and more incredible than the last. Models on the runway donned fresh makeup looks complete with dewy skin and natural makeup. Hair was pinned up for an elegant and refined vibe. The clothing in the collection struck a chord with everyone in the audience especially FASHION Editor-in-Chief Bernadette Morra who dubbed the collection “an outstanding debut“. Morra went on to say his designs had a youthful elegance, combining complicated textures with sleek modern lines. His workmanship is at a couture level, with strips of tulle layered into evening skirts, and wool jersey hand-woven into a basket weave material used for dressed-up sweatshirts. He spent a week sewing leftover scraps into flowers and fringe for decorative boas. DUY’s imagination, energy and high taste level are an exciting new addition to the Canadian design scene.
There is no denying how truly incredible this collection was…F&B Inc absolutely loved it! Of course it wouldn’t be fair to gush about how wonderful the show was without giving readers a taste! Scroll down for a stream of the show from Rightster…
